Primer art journal hecho a mano / First handmade art journal

Hello there dear you.  A while back I thought of making my own art journal, first to try and then, because they can be pricey and things are not that great at the moment to spend too much money. So, I started it yesterday and finished it this morning. I used Canson paper, Basik range of 270g. It resulted a bit too thick, but it should react well to both watercolour and mixed media techniques. For the cover, I used a canvas I´ve had at home for ages. I painted it using acrylic paints, stencils and some doodles and voilá! Hope you´ll like it.

  2. Nacima your journal is gorgeous! I truly love it! The cover is a work of art, and it looks like a fun journal to spend your time working in. I love the colors you used. I tend to stick with my blues and greens too much. Will have to practice working with different colors. :)

    1. Hey Sonja, thank you! It wasn´t easy for me to use these colours either. Several times during the process I thought of letting the whole thing down and start a new one with colours I felt comfortable with, but it is a good challenge to go out of one´s comfort zone from time to time.

  3. NACIMA, do you have a hard surface under the canvas and how did you 'adhere' the canvas to the surface (cover)

    1. Hi Jackie, yes indeed, I glued a heavy cardstock piece under the canvas then folded the edges of the canvas to glue them on that cardstock. Then I decided to glue the first page of the journal to that "cardstocked" cover so as to create a pocket (I always have bits of papers that I find or consider interesting for future projects and thought I could put them in a pocket to make sure I don´t lose them). I used heavy gel medium to glue everything (canvas to cardstock and first journal page to "cardstocked" cover), secured it all with clips and let it dry thourougly. I´m not sure if it is clear enough Jackie. If not, just let me know and will figure out something. HOpe this has helped you a little.

    1. You are very welcome. If I go for a second handmade journal, I may do a step-by-step and post it here and on FB.
